Program HeadI started off the summer as the program head for a program at Glorieta called, "Group Camp." Group Camp is for youth groups that are roughly aged from 12-18 years old. During the week that the group is here, we focus on group development, outdoor adventure, and biblical truth. My job as a Program Head was to make all of the experiences happen. This included setting up evening experiences, occasionally running some activities, and helping to create new and inventive ideas for the program. A lot of my job was programming, which I learned to love. The other part of my job was to lead the counselors for group camp. I was in charge of checking in on them and making sure they were doing okay, spiritually/mentally/physically, and to see if they needed anything. I also led weekly bible studies with the girl counselors each week. Halfway through the summer, I switched programs into a program called, "Family Camp." Family Camp is a getaway for families. People of all ages can come out for a week and relax, grow together, and hopefully go back home more envisioned for what they want their home and family dynamic to be. My job at family camp looked similar, except a lot less programming. I worked a lot with the guests at family camp and got to participate in a lot of family development. I got to do a lot of behind the scenes work at family camp and just plug in for whatever was needed. This was always random, and always odd jobs, such as driving a 5 ton army truck up a mountain all day, one day during the week. Overall, this summer was a good learning experience for me. I learned how to be flexible, work with different types of people, and got to be a part of two completely different programs. And yes, this picture is actually a picture of me "working." Benefits: You get to live on site for free, with free meals and housing. You get a stipend(depends on your role and job) and you sometimes get deals on gear/equipment that the camp might be selling. The weather is great, and the views are beautiful. Santa Fe is about a 25 minute drive. |
